waname® 1st Launch Event
waname is a brand that reconstructs Japanese tradition into contemporary garments that carry it into the future.
We elevate kimono that would otherwise be discarded into new contemporary forms, focusing on Japanese tradition and on the sensibility and beauty of each individual. Reborn one by one, these kimono — each with its own expression — draw each of us in differently. It means everyone can meet a piece that speaks to their own sensibility.
For our first collection, the shirt jacket takes the leading role, joined by bow ties and washi-paper bottoms. See, touch, and wear the delicate beauty of traditional Japanese weaving and dyeing — tsumugi and kasuri — and enjoy the encounter with a piece that is yours alone.

The Venue — Komyo-in
Komyo-in, a sub-temple of Tofuku-ji in Kyoto, has played a central role in Kyoto culture since its founding in 1391. An exhibition and sale by a fashion brand is a rare occasion in the temple’s long history. Through this event, we aim for a fusion of Japanese tradition and contemporary fashion.
During the event, each of the temple’s rooms hosts its own theme: alongside the sales exhibition, a made-to-order salon where a new piece is tailored from the kimono you bring, and a tea ceremony in the detached tea house. On a corridor stage made from a single felled pine, enjoy the runway show, live calligraphy, and more — artistic hours possible only in a venue at one with nature.
Under nature’s beauty flowing from morning into night, we offer a space to feel the fusion of tradition, fashion, and culture with all five senses. Jackets will be sold boxed together with a postcard and booklet. We hope you savor this special occasion.
